For our ʻUkulele I course, students use a concert Kamaka ʻUkulele. They develop their skills in strumming and picking various arrangements such as Chopsticks, Pūpū Hinuhinu, Rhythm of the Falling Rain, and Song of the Islands. They also learn a variety of songs that involve singing and strumming. These songs are often played in pairs and small groups.
ʻUkulele II students continue to strengthen their skills by playing challenging selections such as Guava Jam, Pandanus, Olinda Road, and Spain. They use a tenor Mele ʻUkulele which also them more flexibility up the fretboard. They also learn a variety of songs that involve singing, strumming and picking.
Select ʻUkulele offers students, who have the desire to continue in their ʻukulele journey, the opportunity to sharpen their skills in picking, strumming and overall musicianship. They are often challenged with difficult arrangements and they are also expected to assist in teaching the ʻUkulele I and II students.
All students will be expected to perform in at least one concert. Thursday, December 10th, 2015 is our Winter Concert. Students will be able to showcase the different songs that they've learned throughout the semester.
